50th anniversary of Bruce Lee’s death: There is a kind of "legend" called Bruce Lee.
BEIJING, Beijing, July 20th (Reporter Xing Rui) Fifty years ago today, Chinese martial arts master Bruce Lee passed away. During the filming of the movie "The Game of Death", he died suddenly in his friend’s home, and his life was finally fixed at the age of 32.
In his short life, Bruce Lee has participated in more than 30 films and 6 TV series, and his fans are all over the world. In the eyes of Americans, he is the "king of martial arts", and in the eyes of Japanese, he is also the "sage of martial arts". But for China fans, the existence of Bruce Lee has a more special significance. He not only influenced a generation, but also changed the image of China people in the minds of westerners.
"China symbol" in the eyes of Westerners
American Time magazine once selected "Top Ten Cultural Idols of the Earth in a Hundred Years", among which Bruce Lee ranked fifth. In a sense, he is synonymous with China culture and the loudest business card.
Bruce Lee was born in the United States, and then returned to Hong Kong with his family. Since the age of seven, he has studied Tai Chi, Wing Chun, Karate, Jiu Jitsu and Taekwondo, as well as Cha Cha and Boxing. He broke the traditional martial arts schools and frameworks, and at the same time, he made China martial arts known to the world.

In 1959, Bruce Lee was sent to the United States by his family. In 1961, he was admitted to the University of Washington in Seattle, majoring in drama and minoring in philosophy, psychology and other subjects.
During his stay in the United States, Bruce Lee organized a China Kung Fu team in the school and often performed various martial arts in the school. He had a discussion with Ed Parker, the father of American karate, and also had exchanges with American jujitsu master Willie Jay, Pan American judo champion Hayward Xigang, and Li Junjiu, the father of American Taekwondo.
What many people don’t know is that the word "kung fu" in English was put forward by Bruce Lee and later written into the English dictionary.

In 1966, Bruce Lee played the role of Kato in the Hollywood TV series The Green Hornet, and made his mark with his performance in the play.
At that time, Bruce Lee, who was ambitious, wrote down his goal straightforwardly: "My clear goal is to become a super oriental superstar with the highest salary in the United States." However, things are far from as smooth as he imagined. What he faced was the arrogance and prejudice of the whole western society towards Chinese.

Kick the prejudice to pieces
A director once described Hollywood in the 1960s and 1970s like this: "For many Americans, Asian men are the spokesmen of the enemy."
Bruce Lee was also frustrated by the stereotyped images of Asians in movies and TV series. Even though The Green Hornet allowed Bruce Lee to exert his fists in film and television dramas, Hollywood’s rejection of Asian actors still kept him in a bind. He refused to accept those roles with strong racial prejudice.
"When Chinese people appear, it’s always the same sound. Damn it! " Bruce Lee once personally expressed his dissatisfaction in an interview.
But what he did was not just complain, he wanted to change all this. Making China’s kung fu famous in the world is the way he chooses to fight back.

During his study in the United States, Bruce Lee opened the first martial arts museum, Zhenfan National Art Museum, which attracted martial arts lovers from all over the world and created a precedent for the inheritance of China Kung Fu in the United States.
Zhen Fan, the real name of Bruce Lee, means "awakening and shocking the foreign countries". Before his death, he talked about the reason for opening the martial arts school: "I hope to let the world know the profoundness of Chinese martial arts."
Gradually, Bruce Lee founded and developed Jeet Kune Do, and successfully put China Kung Fu on the big screen.

In the 1970s, Bruce Lee, unwilling to play a supporting role in Hollywood, returned to Hong Kong for development. He made five films and a TV series. Almost every movie, from Big Brother in Tangshan to enter the dragon, has achieved unprecedented success.
In the movie "Jingwumen", he kicked the sign that "Chinese and dogs are not allowed in" and shouted "China people are not the sick man of East Asia".
These films show the indomitable spirit and indomitable spirit of China people, arouse the resonance of Chinese people all over the world, and inspire the fighting spirit of the whole nation. The image he created as a "hero of China" is gradually recognized by the world.
Perhaps this is the significance of Bruce Lee’s surpassing the times.

In the days when he left, people’s memory of him increased. The English epitaph in front of Bruce Lee’s grave is engraved with the following sentence: "Your enlightenment will continue to guide us to personal liberation."
A few words not only describe his fleeting life, but also continue to tell his legendary story today after he left for 50 years. (End)
