The Communist Party of China (CPC) led the people of China in their arduous struggle to win the battle against epidemic, fight against poverty and fight against floods and disasters in southern China since summer, which protected people’s life safety and health and improved people’s well-being. People-centered development thought has become the main theme of these tough battles. A sudden epidemic in COVID-19 is rare in the history of human diseases because of its rapid spread, wide range of infection and great difficulty in prevention and control. China has contributed effective experiences and programs to the cause of poverty reduction in the world, which has been praised by people all over the world. What doctrine they believe in and what road they take are related to the future and destiny of the future country. Therefore, it is urgent to educate college students’ ideals and beliefs. We should carry out the people-centered development thought in the whole process of cultivating people, and give priority to solving the problem of why people are, from entrance education, all-round cultivation of morality, intelligence and physique, social practice to employment guidance. Ideological and political courses in colleges and universities should play a leading role in the process of casting souls and educating people, and guide college students to establish the life value concept of serving the people wholeheartedly. At present, the ideological and political courses offered in colleges and universities, such as an introduction to the basic principles of Marxism, an introduction to the theoretical system of Mao Zedong Thought and Socialism with Chinese characteristics, an outline of China’s modern history, ideological and moral cultivation and legal basis, all contain the contents of Marxist historical materialism, and the people-centered development thought should be integrated into them and internalized into the ideals and beliefs of college students.
